As part of his renovation plan for a Georgian residence in Albany, decorator Brendan Flanigan relocated the home’s study, allowing for a larger kitchen with more natural light.

Now wide expanses of glass take in the wooded surroundings, while matte black cabinetry, a contrasting wood dining counter, and a sleek sitting area centered around a floating fireplace create an aura of effortless cool. “The eclectic mix,” says judge Vicente Wolf, “gives the space a timeless quality.”

Judge Vicente Wolf praises Scarsdale-based Tara Kantor’s plan for this Upper East Side pied-à-terre, which includes a “superb mix of textures and a soothing palette.” Kantor had to get creative with the rather compact 1,700-square-foot space, installing a built-in bar in a previously unused nook, re-envisioning the linen closet as a makeup vanity, and designing the living room’s velvet sectional, which is equipped with a king-size pullout mattress.

Having grown tired of their circa-2000 traditional kitchen, the homeowners of this Sea Cliff, Long Island, residence brought back the home’s original designer, Smiros & Smiros Architects, to transform the kitchen into a contemporary space with a more pared-down, urban aesthetic. Metallic accents, wood cabinetry, and plush upholstery make the space “practical, yet luxurious,” says judge Sheila Bridges. “A real standout,” adds Kikoski.
